Brisbane Powerhouse was once a rundown power station, but is today an eclectic location for contemporary art, bringing visitors from across the globe.
The arts centre is located on the eastern part of the New Farm Park, and quit close to Brisbane River. Recent renovations have transformed the run-down station to a place of delight. Close to a million visitors enjoy 1000+ performances on location.
The most fascinating bit about attending events at the center is that there’s a year long program that brings together artists in different genres, ranging from comedians to writers, visual artists, musicians and stars in the film sector. Other sectors from which artists are drawn from include digital arts, theatre and dance.
With so many activities, you may be wondering how the center is able to cater for the soaring numbers of people. There are two key stage theatres: the first accommodates about 700 people while the second theater holds thrice that number. In addition to these venues, there are three spaces with additional seating space.
Other facilities on location include gallery spaces where pieces of art work are put on display for the public as well as corporate facilities for guests who would like to add an artistic streak to their travels. From the corporate facilities, guests have stunning views of the majestic Brisbane River. If you need to get a quick bite before your favorite performances begin, make your way to the two restaurants on location. There’s a couple of bars too if you need a cold frothy beer.
Depending on when you visit, you may get to enjoy some of the events and exhibitions held at Brisbane Powerhouse. Occasionally, there are food-and-wine events where you can indulge in some of your favorite culinary delights.
When you visit the Powerhouse, take some time to explore the farm. This idyllic recreational site is perfect for when you need to recharge. Whether you would like to go picnicking, or want to watch as the kids run after butterflies, or simply catch up on your reading, the Farm Park is the perfect place to do this. Smell the roses while at it too, quite literally!
The Powerhouse features a segment popularly referred to as ‘Try Something Different’. This simply challenges visitors to get out of their comfort zones and look for something out of the norm. Whether it is an inspiring dance, or a funny show by a new comedy act, or even art work by kids, you can be sure to have fun at the Powerhouse.
