Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

December 7, 2015 by David

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world’s only destination where you can enjoy spending time with koalas and other marsupials right in the heart of Australia.

The first of its kind, this koala sanctuary has also been ranked as one of the best globally. It is for this simple reason that you cannot pass an opportunity to sample the sanctuary when in Brisbane. The zoo is home to some 130 koalas, kangaroos, wombats among many other animals. There is also diverse birdlife at the sanctuary, making this destination perfect for nature lovers touring Brisbane and its environs.

Koalas are very cute, no doubt. Consequently, many visitors cherish the memories of taking a photograph, either cuddling the koala, hugging it or playing with it. These memories are an exciting souvenir. Note, however, that you must get a ticket pass (charged at $18) before you can take any photos with the koalas. Once you have paid this amount, the sanctuary’s official photographers will take a photo of you cuddling the koalas before you are permitted to snap away on your personal devices.

In addition to this, you get to enjoy animal presentations held throughout the day. These presentations are a phenomenal place to learn about koalas and generally, get insight into the marsupial family which Australia is best known for. You could also get to enjoy the audio guides which you can share with your friends.

The Sanctuary hosts various events from time to time, so be on the lookout for the different exhibitions on location. In recent times, the sanctuary has added a couple of goat kids to the animals so make sure to check the new kids on the block, quite literally.

Visiting the Koala Sanctuary is the perfect experience for memorable moments in wild Australia. Whether you want to hug the furry koalas, or listen to the feathery species of birds chirp in the background, or just relax as the scaly animals slither away into the park’s flora, you can be sure that each of the sessions are designed for your enjoyment.

The tours are structured so that the groups consist of up to 6 tourists. Depending on your budgetary needs, you get to enjoy a hands on experience at the zoo. More importantly, bookings are a prerequisite to visits at the sanctuary. You can catch a bus to the sanctuary, a 45-minute ride from the bus station at Queensland. If you opt to use waterway transport, Mirimar cruises depart from South Bank right next to Victoria Bridge. Alternatively, drive yourself to the sanctuary – the route is well-marked so you cannot possibly miss the sanctuary. Use the details below to see how you can best plan your vacation.
