Things do in Brisbane

November 29, 2015 by David

There are fun things to do in Brisbane, all of which make for a memorable experience in one of Australia’s most iconic cities and tourist destinations.

Whether you would like to wine and dine with the locals at the numerous city events, or prefer to relax and while away time by the lake, you can be sure to find something you will enjoy in Brisbane. The city also has lots of family friendly locations, making it ideal for a family holiday destination.

Start off your vacation at the City Botanic Gardens where the verdant green space will soothe your soul and allow you to rejuvenate before picking up the city’s vibrant pace. Look out for the well-manicured lawns and the macadamia trees nestled among them. Plan to visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and learn just about everything you can about koalas.

If you are up for adventure in the natural wild, make your way to the spectacular Moreton Bay, a clear coastline stretch with just about 365 islands – this gives you 365 reasons to stay in Brisbane. Some of the activities you can engage in while at the Bay include swimming with the dolphins, diving and surfing.

One of the fun things to do in Brisbane is to take on the Story Bridge and enjoy the dramatic change of the city’s skyline in an invigorating and adventurous climb led by a professional climb leader. While on the bridge, look out for stunning views of Moreton Bay and Mount Coot-tha to the west.

For the artsy visitor, there is no shortage of fun activities. Visit the Queensland Cultural Centre to easily understand the city’s epicenter for all things cultural. Alternatively, head out to the Gallery of Modern Art, certainly home to some of Australia’s most exquisite works of art. Do not pass the opportunity to board historic war vehicles at the Queensland Maritime Museum.

Brisbane is home to many restaurants where you can choose between eating on a budget or fine dining, complete with appetizers and choice wines from Australia’s vineyards. Sample Vietnamese cuisine at the Trang Restaurant or take on seafood at the Caxton Street Seafood Festival with more than thousands of visitors in attendance.

If you are looking for a place to down a cold frothy beer, the Bavarian Bier Café does not disappoint. The Walrus Club is also an excellent option if you need to walk back in time to understand one of the city’s oldest pubs. Top this experience with a tour at the XXXX Brewery.

Other notable attractions where you can enjoy things to do and see include sightseeing within the CBD, bushwalking at the Simpson Falls, taking on adventure at the Barefoot Dave Show as well as enjoying live shows at Brisbane Powerhouse.

The best time to visit Brisbane is between March and May. During this period, the weather is rather comfortable, and the tourist season is not at peak. Spring, which falls between September and November registers the highest number of tourists, so you should expect increased rates at most tourist destinations. Regardless of the time you choose to visit, there are many exciting things to do in Brisbane.
