Currumbin Sanctuary

January 20, 2016 by David

The sanctuary is tucked away in a verdant eucalyptus and rain forest, allowing visitors to experience nature on a one to one. This is the perfect way to come face to face with the wildlife in unique experiences that cannot possibly be replicated anywhere else in the country.

Each trip is an adventure at the sanctuary. Start off your trip by cuddling koalas – these beautiful and gentle animals are native to the land down under, so this makes for a fascinating experience altogether. Your guide will also educate you on the lives that these animals lead, how they feed and even how they procreate.

Away from the koalas, you can take on the nerve-wracking task of coming up close with the crocodiles. This is not an everyday opportunity, unless of course you are a croc handler. This is exactly why you need to take these opportunities and run with them. Take safety measures as advised by your wildlife guide, but be sure to have fun.

Currumbin Sanctuary is also rich with birdlife, so birdwatchers will certainly enjoy visiting this wildlife home. Note the different vibrantly colored birds, taking note to find out what their species are if you are the quintessential bird lover. Look out for the reptiles and kangaroos, among many other animals that call this sanctuary home.

Depending on when you visit, there is a host of events to take part in. Blinky Bill is, for instance, is one of the most captivating shows at the sanctuary, bringing to life the characters of your favorite shows. Catch all the cheeky koala action at the show.

You can also take the tree top challenge if you are on the hunt for an invigorating activity. The challenge is held at the High Ropes Adventure Park, and is perfect for adrenaline-charged individuals. There are close to 100 challenges, and these are inclusive of a dozen exhilarating zip lines that will have you whizzing across the park at terrific speeds. Make sure you have fun at the Croc Shock, if the zipline adventure does not leave you petrified as this typically takes you right above the reptiles’ home. This makes for an unforgettable trip to one of the most iconic destinations in Gold Coast.

Alternatively, take it easy and get to enjoy the wildlife shows, or enjoy a simple meal at the café while you mingle and interact with other visitors. Currumbin Sanctuary is an accessible destination, and visitors can also hire baby/child seat equipment. Parking is available, and your trip will be overseen by a handy guide.
