Bribie Island

January 29, 2016 by David

One of the most fascinating facts about this island is that it is one of just two islands that is linked to the mainland by bridge. This not only makes travel easy, it also provides stunning views of the waters. When you arrive at the island, you are welcomed by pristine beaches dotted with holiday makers who are equally charmed by the island’s idyllic surroundings.

The island is such a surreal escape from the daily hustle and bustle that makes the city vibrant. Here, you are at home with the charming community, marvelous beaches and inviting waters. The island is perfect for water adventure lovers, families on vacation, nature lovers and just about anyone looking for a new experience.

As expected, one of the prime attractions at the island is the beach. Bribie beaches constitute an elongated stretch that boasts a calming coastline as well as an exciting surfing zone. The Woorim Beach is perfect for you if you are looking to surf or are chasing after a wild drive adventure.

The Bongaree beach on the other hand is perfect for families, and has ample space for the kids to play on the beach. At Bongaree, there are also picnic facilities for an easy afternoon at the beach. Barbecure facilities are also available here. Make sure to enjoy swimming at the beach too; nothing beats a cool dip in the soaring summer temperatures.

If you would like to tour the marine park at Bribie Island, then the Pumicestone Passage is a must-visit. The passage runs for about 20 miles, and acts as the connection between the island and Caboolture, yet another exotic getaway in Queensland.

Art lovers will enjoy spending time at the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology. The museum is home to some of the most beautiful works of art and antique artifacts. Here, the past comes alive through the fine art on display, giving you the chance to learn more about the history of Western Europe. If you are all excited about events, make sure you plan for the Abbey Medieval Festival held annually in July.

Alternatively, make time to visit the Seaside Museum where you will learn about the island’s people and their stories. Here, you will also get the opportunity to learn more about the people who shaped the island’s past, including the amazing artist Ian Fairweather and the American invasion during the Second World War.

Other activities that you can enjoy on Bribie Island include camping at Ocean Beach, kayaking and dolphin spotting while on a cruise. Here’s additional information to help plan your tour.
