Queensland Museum

November 9, 2015 by David

Queensland Museum is the perfect way to travel back in time and experience what Queensland was. This is about its people, its culture and its history.

Founded in 1862, the museum has offered a home for different collections that are relevant to the state. Some of the collections are as old as the museum itself, and this certainly creates an interesting opportunity to glean lessons from Queensland’s past.

With an array of objects and artifacts from different fields, there is no shortage of things to marvel at. Take a cultural journey with some of the ancient objects available or take on a handful of scientific objects on display for a well-rounded visit.

Take time to enjoy the delightful Discovery Centre where interactive sessions will have memories of the museum trip etched in your mind forever. This center showcases the amazing diversity of flora and fauna across Queensland enchanting landscapes.

The dinosaur zones, found both indoors and outdoors offer a fascinating experience that makes for a worthwhile trip. The kids are set to enjoy this zone as it brings to life an era that is long gone. Proceed to the exhibits section and look out for the Avian Cirrus. This is a renowned bi-plane that is famous for its flight from London to Bundaberg. The plane sits in the reception area, attracting curious visitors keen to learn more about its history.

Another section of Queensland Museum that the kids will enjoy is the Energex Playosaurus Place a floored garden that also doubles up as a kids’ playground. Here, the kids can play as much as they want, with dinosaur films running in the background.

Do not pass the chance to soak in the sheer beauty of trackway. This is a replication of the Lark Quarry, the location of a dinosaur stampede. Visitors travelling in groups often re-enact the scenario (a bit more carefully of course), and it is not uncommon to see the kids playing about. This trackway is a favorite photo spot for many tourists too.

Refuel at the Collectors Café before continuing with the adventure across the museum. The café serves an array of meals, including kiddie meals and healthy options. Depending on the events on location, the menu may change accordingly. The Café is operational as follows: Weekdays (0730 hours to 1700 hours), Weekends (0930 hours – 1700hours). The café may also be hired as a venue for guests looking for destination functions.

You can also get souvenirs at the Museum Shop. Other facilities include accessible parts of the museum and Wireless internet. Additional information you need before visiting Queensland Museum is listed below:
